switch families

M4250, M4350 and M4500.

Three families cover a classroom stream up to a broadcast core. Most installations mix them: M4250 at the edge, M4350 or M4500 in the middle.

    M4250

    13 models · 8 to 40 ports · PoE+ or Ultra90 PoE++

The 1G AV family, from desktop units to 2RU. Clean fronts with ports on the back on most models, rack or VESA mounting, and Auto-LAG and Auto-Trunk for connecting several switches.

    M4350

    1G · 2.5G · 10G · 25G · 100G models

The platform for mixed and higher-speed AV: half-width and full-width 1U models, PoE up to 90W a port, redundant modular power on selected models, and SMPTE ST 2110 with boundary and grandmaster PTP on selected models. The new M4350-16C adds sixteen 100G ports.

    M4500

    M4500-32C · M4500-48XF8C

SDVoE-ready core and backbone switches: 32 ports of 100G on the M4500-32C, or 48 ports of 25G (set to 10G) with eight 100G uplinks on the M4500-48XF8C. Supports MLAG and spine-and-leaf designs.

New in 2026

M4350-16M4V, built for touring.

Sixteen 2.5G PoE++ ports, eight of them on Neutrik etherCON connectors, and four 25G uplinks, for live production and touring racks.

NETGEAR still offers the earlier M4300 family for 1G and 10G installs.

choosing a switch

Not sure which model? Five questions narrow it down.

Five checks decide the family, the port count and the power budget.

  1. Which AV systems are on the network?

NETGEAR AV switches ship with profiles for systems such as NDI, Dante, AES67, Q-SYS and AVB. You choose the profile and the ports that use it, instead of configuring IGMP and QoS by hand.

    NDIDanteAES67Q-SYSAVB
  2. How much bandwidth does each device need?

M4250 is built for 1G AV over IP. Higher-bitrate formats such as SDVoE and SMPTE ST 2110 need 10G and faster ports, which is where M4350 and M4500 come in.

  3. What is powered from the switch?

PTZ cameras, encoders and panels can draw power over the network cable. M4250 budgets run from 110W on the smallest PoE+ model to 2,880W on the 40-port Ultra90 PoE++ model, at up to 90W a port.

  4. Does anything need precision timing?

SMPTE ST 2110 and AES67 rely on PTP. Selected M4350 models act as a PTP boundary or grandmaster clock; M4250 supports transparent clock.

  5. Where will the switch live?

Desktop and half-width models fit under a table or in a flypack; full-width 1U models go in the rack. The new M4350-16M4V adds etherCON ports for touring.

setup and management

Configured by profile, from the switch or from Engage.

AV profiles are the difference between an IT switch and an AV switch: choose the system, choose the ports, and the multicast and priority settings follow.

NETGEAR AV web interface open on a desktop monitor

The AV web interface.

M4250 and M4350 switches include an AV web interface built around network profiles, so a single switch can be set up on site without a command line. NETGEAR IGMP Plus handles multicast traffic for streaming AV.

NETGEAR Engage Controller open on a laptop

NETGEAR Engage Controller.

A free Windows and macOS application that discovers, configures and monitors M4250, M4300, M4350 and M4500 switches, NETGEAR Pro routers and WiFi 7 access points. Networks can be designed offline and pushed when the hardware arrives.

The NETGEAR Align Controller (GB406) is a half-width 1U appliance that hosts Engage on site, with remote access through the NETGEAR Insight portal under a license. It is also a PTPv2 grandmaster and boundary clock for SMPTE ST 2110, ST 2059-2 and AES67, supports gPTP for AVB, serves NTP, Syslog, DNS and DHCP, and runs on PoE++ (802.3bt Type 4) power with an AC adapter as backup.

From NETGEAR

NETGEAR backs these switches with a limited lifetime hardware warranty, runs Pro AV Design Services for product selection and network design, and offers NETGEAR Academy certification courses that carry AVIXA renewal units.

buying through varto

Why buy NETGEAR AV through Varto?

We run NETGEAR AV in our own building and in the systems we build, so the switch is chosen with the cameras, audio and storage it has to carry.
