Turtle AV

Turtle AV video and Dante audio over IP.

Turtle AV, of Melbourne, Australia, makes 4K video over IP on Dante AV-A, H.265 video at low bitrates, Dante audio converters and meeting room extenders. Where a room's audio already runs on Dante, the video is routed the same way. We design the system and the network, install it and train your team.

CHAZY 4K

4K video routed in Dante, like the audio.

CHAZY 4K sends 4K60 4:4:4 HDR video over the network as Dante AV-A, routed in Dante Controller alongside the room's Dante audio.

  • Picture: JPEG 2000 at up to 2160p60 4:4:4, with HDR and HDCP 2.2.
  • Included: the Dante AV-A licence, two channels of Dante audio in and out, and USB KVM.
  • Building scale: video walls up to 9x9, unicast or multicast, dual network ports and a fanless design.
  • Transmitters come as a box, a USB-C box or a wall plate, with a receiver at each display.
  • A white two-gang Turtle AV CHAZY 4K wall plate with two USB-C inputs, an HDMI input, a USB-B host port, two USB-A ports and a source button

    TransmitterCHAZY 4K Wall Plate TX

HDMI and USB-C inputs at the table or the lectern, in a wall plate, with a button to switch sources.

  • A teal Turtle AV CHAZY Control box, front and back, with power, two network ports, two RS-232 ports, control inputs and IR in and out

    ControlCHAZY Control

A browser interface for routing, with presets, groups, schedules and an API for room control systems. A free phone and tablet app routes sources and can be locked to routing only.

  • A teal Turtle AV CHAZY 4K Multiview rack unit with a small front screen, rows of buttons and four Dante AV-A network inputs on the back

    MultiviewerCHAZY 4K Multiview

Four Dante AV-A streams in, one 4K multiview out on HDMI or DisplayPort, and back onto the network as a Dante AV-A stream, with windowing KVM and mouse roaming.

For council chambers and courts feeding many displays and overflow rooms, classrooms and lecture halls, and lobby screens.

DARWIN

H.265 video at low bitrates, for many screens.

DARWIN encodes video in H.265 at low bitrates, for venues and campuses with many displays on one network.

  • Two models: DARWIN 4K at up to 2160p30, and DARWIN HD at 1080p60 4:4:4.
  • Multiview: a DARWIN 4K RX can show up to 36 sources on one 4K screen, in a layout you set.
  • Power: PoE from the network switch, or DC.
  • DARWIN Control adds a web interface, an API, AES-256 encryption, HTTPS and SSH, two RS-232 ports and GPIO.

For sports concourses, hospitality screens, operations rooms and campus signage.

Dante audio

Microphones, wall plates and speakers on the Dante network.

Turtle AV converters put analog and microphone audio on Dante. Depending on the model, they add onboard DSP, PoE, phantom power and redundancy.

The audio line

Mineola bridges
2x2, 4x4, 8x8 and 16x16 bridges move analog audio to and from Dante.
Microphone and line
The JEF microphone preamp, Dante adapters for XLR, line, USB and Bluetooth, and Dante Pro converters.
Wall plates
Dante XLR wall plates in a US one-gang Decora size, and Dante Bluetooth wall plates.
Amplifiers
Dante to passive speakers with DSP: a 30 W PoE+ model that is plenum rated, and a 150 W model.
Domain Bridge
Links two Dante domains, with sample-rate conversion.

For council daises, stage and wall I/O in worship spaces, school gyms and auditoriums, and studios that run Dante.

Dante AV-A is a network job first.

Turtle AV endpoints need a managed switch set up for multicast and Dante. We plan that network with your IT team, then install the system, test every route and train the staff who run it. Our NETGEAR AV page covers the switches we install.

  • Network: multicast, quality of service and VLANs for Dante and Dante AV-A, and whether IT wants control and video on separate ports.
  • Control: Dante Controller, CHAZY Control, or the room's control system. Turtle AV publishes Q-SYS plugins for CHAZY, DARWIN and much of the audio line, and Crestron support for CHAZY.
  • Audio endpoints: which microphones and speakers become Dante points.
  • Training: staff learn routing, presets and what to check when a screen goes dark.

What to send for a Turtle AV quote

  • Displays and sources: how many of each, and where they are.
  • Picture: which screens need 4K60 and which can run H.265.
  • Audio: whether the room already runs Dante, and the console or DSP.
  • Network: the switches in place, and who manages them.
  • Control: any control system in the room, by make.
  • Purchasing: whether the bid needs TAA compliance.

A floor plan and an equipment list are enough to start.

Buying questions

Do we need Dante to use Turtle AV?

CHAZY 4K and the audio converters are Dante devices, so they fit best where the room's audio runs on Dante or is about to. CHAZY 4K includes its Dante AV-A licence. DARWIN encodes in H.265 and is managed with DARWIN Control.

When is CHAZY the better fit, and when DARWIN?

CHAZY 4K carries 4K60 4:4:4 with JPEG 2000, for presentations and screens where detail matters. DARWIN uses H.265 at lower bitrates, at 4K30 or 1080p60, and one receiver can build a multiview of up to 36 sources, for buildings with many screens.

Is Turtle AV TAA compliant?

Turtle AV states TAA compliance on its product pages. Ask us for the documentation your bid needs before you rely on it.

Send the floor plan.
We will plan the system.

We come back with the endpoints, the network and the control, and what it takes to run it.
